Welcome to the Mayor of New Milton

Welcome to the Mayor of New Milton

Press Release

Welcome to Cllr Alvin Reid, Mayor of New Milton.

We are pleased to announce that Cllr Alvin Reid has been elected as the Mayor of New Milton and Chairman of the Council for the coming year.  Cllr Reid was previously Mayor from 2019 – 2021 and much of his previous tenure was during lockdown.  He is really looking forward to being able to get out and about, to meet residents and have the full Mayoral experience this time around.

He advised, at the meeting, that one of the most important duties of the Mayor is to choose a charity to support.  He was looking for a charity that was inclusive of all ages, of both sexes and that helps mental and physical health and offers fantastic support to the town.

He felt that all these qualities are exhibited by New Milton Men’s Shed who he has chosen as his charity for the year and will shortly share his plans for raising their profile in the town, as well as raising plenty of money for them.  The Mayor and the Town Council have had a longstanding relationship with the Men’s Shed.  He opened their temporary home at Fernhill Sports Ground in 2019 and the Town Council provided support with those premises.

The new shed will be opening on 7th June at Fawcetts Field and the Mayor will be there for the launch.  With around 80 members at the moment and plans to extend their opening hours, 2024 will be an exciting year for the Men’s Shed.

At the Annual Meeting when his Mayorship was announced Cllr Reid took the opportunity to thank Cllr David Hawkins the outgoing Mayor for the great job he had done as Mayor and Chairman over the past year.  At that meeting Cllr Hawkins was able to announce his own news.  He has just been elected Chairman of NFDC for the coming year.
