Essential Gas Main Replacement

Essential Gas Main Replacement

Important notice from SGN

Road closures on Walkford Road, Christchurch for essential gas main replacement

From Monday 28 April for a duration of 14 weeks, SGN specialist contractors I&G Contractors Limited, will commence a programme of work to replace the gas main on Walkford Road in Christchurch.

These essential works involve replacing the old medium pressure metal gas pipe with a new plastic pipe to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and efficient gas supply and avoid further gas escapes in the future.

We’ll be replacing the gas main on Walkford Road between the junctions of Walkford Lane and Hurst Close.  Due to the location of the gas main in the road, for everyone’s safety we’ll need to close the road between these junctions for the duration of the work.

This closure will mean:

  • No through vehicle traffic past the closure in either direction – a diversion route will be in place.
  • The junction of Walkford Lane (right hand fork with Walkford Road/Gore Road) will be closed at its junction with Gore Road – this will mean vehicles can only turn left onto Gore Road.
  • The junction of Chewton Farm Road will be closed at its junction with Walkford Road – this will mean access in and out of Chewton Farm Road will be from Ringwood Road.
  • Vehicle access for residents within the closure including Holly Lane will be maintained.  Residents affected will be kept informed about local access arrangements.

Bus routes will be affected – we advise passengers to speak to their service provider for the latest updates and changes to services.

Please note the gas pipe we are replacing is the medium pressure pipe, the previous installation work was carried out on the low pressure. To maintain local gas supplies we are unable to replace both pipes at the same time.

We appreciate you may have questions about these works – we will host an information event (location and date to be confirmed).

We understand our works will be disruptive, please can we reassure you our engineers will be doing everything they can to complete these works as quickly and as safely as possible.
